Private lessons.

Have you always wanted to have a go on the wheel? Careful, it is addictive!

Private classes will be in my studio where I will run through basics and help you get to grips with making your own pots. Learn more about the class below or press on the link to book.

Lessons are 1.5 hours long and it is recommended that you book a minimum of two sessions, each about one week apart.

Lesson one will cover the basics of working with clay and throwing on the potters wheel. Understand the process of making pots, from a bag of clay to a finished item. We will then wedge clay which preps the material for a successful throw on the wheel. I will run through all the steps and explain how to centre clay, open a piece up and then form a simple cylinder - which is the basis for most pots. You can keep throwing pots, making a mess and hopefully make some triumphant pottery along the way. I will be on hand the whole time giving tips and stepping in if you want me to. All clay is included.

Lesson two will show how to turn your leather-hard (partially dried) pottery into neat shapes. Turning a pot on the wheel can be quite mesmerising, this is the stage where you can cut foot rings or add handles to mugs. I will show you how to do this as well as carving shapes into the pot if you wish. Once your work is turned you can use the rest of the lesson to throw more pots.

I will then fire your work ready for glazing.

You can then choose to come back for a third lesson where you will learn about the glazing process, glaze your work and turn your last pots. All work will then be fired for the final time ready for pick up. Alternatively, I can just glaze your finished pots with a simple white or clear glaze so they are ready to pick up without an extra lesson.

£85 per 1.5 hour lesson. Price includes clay, bisque firing, glaze and glaze firing of any finished pots.
